THE ROAD TO LE MANS

Alex has been named as one of the finalists in the United Autosports Young Driver Initiative, with the prize, a drive in the final round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship with United Autosports, firmly in his sights.

There was an overwhelming response to the Young Driver Initiative, announced at the opening round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship at Donington Park in April. Over 100 drivers from a vast range of backgrounds and with varying levels of experience applied to be in with a chance of winning a drive in the Ligier JS P3 – the most successful LMP3 car in the market.

The finalists now have 10 weeks to convince the public to vote for them as the winning driver. Voting will close on Friday 11th August, with the winning driver being announced at the penultimate round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship at Snetterton on Saturday 12th August.

In order to vote, follow this link: bit.ly/UALMP3 and enter your name and email, then on the following page choose Alex (top right picture).

Every voter will automatically be entered into a prize draw, where they will be in with a chance of winning two tickets to the final round of the Henderson Insurance LMP3 Cup Championship at Donington Park.

Chris Haynes, Bute Motorsport (LMP3 Cup):

"It's safe to say we were not only amazed by the quantity of applicants, but the quality as well. The fact we had drivers from top national championships apply is a tremendous show of strength for the LMP3 formula and particularly for our British Championship. We debated upon the nominations for some time but whittled the 118 to a final 10. Each of the final 10 are strong candidates and all have different strengths and weaknesses - we now hand the process over to the public to vote. It's going to be fascinating to watch how the drivers promote themselves in the coming weeks, to secure the winning number of votes.”

Alex Sedgwick:

“If I could choose any category of motorsport to race in at this point in my career, it would be LMP3. My target has always been the Le Mans 24 Hours, ever since I was fortunate enough to visit as a child and learn about the inner workings of a high-level endurance team with Peugeot Sport.

For me, this is the next stage of my career and my ‘road to Le Mans’, beginning with this incredible opportunity. Being selected as one of the final ten drivers is fantastic and gives me a chance of taking one more step towards my dream. The final decision is now down to a public vote, so I will be doing everything I can to win over as many voters as I can and, I will be so grateful for all the votes I receive.”
