ALEX TO BECOME YOUNGEST DRIVER IN RENAULT UK CLIO CUP

Alex will become the youngest driver on this year’s Renault UK Clio Cup grid when he contests its forthcoming two rounds at Silverstone after signing for British Touring Car Championship star Josh Cook’s Team Cooksport squad.

Alex will be just 16 years, seven months and ten days old when he takes part in the two races. Just younger than Josh Price who, aged 16 years, eight months and 17 days made his Clio Cup debut in the championship’s previous two rounds at Rockingham.

Alex has knowledge of the Clio Cup’s circuits – as a leading name in 2014 in the Ginetta Juniors Championship which also races alongside the British Touring Car Championship.

After just three races in 2015 – in the French Formula 4 Championship – he is eager to compete again in Britain.

“I’m really excited to be joining the Clio Cup grid at Silverstone,” said Alex. “It’s going to be very different for me – in fact it will be the first time I’ve raced anything front-wheel-drive. Silverstone is also my home track."

“Hopefully I’ll be on the pace after the two Friday test sessions for qualifying on the Saturday. It is super competitive so clearly I’m not going there thinking about wins or podiums – instead I’m after a couple of solid results and to build my experience of the car, hopefully before doing the season finale at Brands Hatch too and a full season next year.

“I’ve had a look around the Clio Cup cars and the championship set-up and it is very impressive with a real buzz to it. All the connections to the BTCC and the fact it keeps producing so many top class drivers make the appeal obvious.”

Team Principal Cook said: “Everyone at Team Cooksport is really pleased to have another young talent join the team. Despite being the youngest driver on the Clio Cup grid, Alex is very mature and already an accomplished driver. I’m looking forward to working with him and watching him succeed in the Clio Cup.”
